Spectators will not be allowed in the arena(s) during ID Camps.

No, players who wish to try-out for a Calgary Fire team are not required to attend an ID Camp. However, they are a great opportunity to meet our coaches and learn more about the Fire and the Elite Female hockey stream in Alberta.

Between June 15 and August 15, the Calgary Fire U18 AAA team has the ability to formally commit to a maximum of five (5) skaters and one (1) goaltender. All commitments are made formally by using the “Player Agreement” form. Please note that underage players are not eligible to sign a “Player Agreement” prior to try outs as their participation must be approved in accordance with the Player Acceleration process.

The purpose of our Spring ID camps is to provide an opportunity for athletes and parents to:

• Experience the competition level of Elite female hockey.
• Learn more about the Calgary Fire program.
• Meet Calgary Fire Elite coaching staff and receive feedback.

The 2021-22 ID Camps are as follows:

U18 AAA/AA Prep Camp

Players who reside in Zone 9 do not need to complete any additional paperwork to attend a Calgary Fire ID Camp.

What paperwork is involved?

1. HOCKEY ALBERTA NOTIFICATION OF TRY-OUT FORM

All players trying out for an “AAA” team that is outside their Resident Minor Hockey Association must have a completed Notification of Tryout Form signed by their Resident MHA. This completed form must be presented to each team that the player is trying out for before she/he is eligible to participate in the try-out camp. Please send this this form to registrar@girlshockeycalgary.com

2. LETTER OF PERMISSION (HOCKEY CALGARY)

Zone 9 Players who wish to attend a U18 "AAA" training camp and/or tryout camp outside of their Recruitment Area must submit Hockey Calgary's online Letter of Permission form.

3. ELITE WAIVER FORM

If a player signed a Player Agreement and was registered with the Calgary Fire U18 AAA team for the 2020/2021 season and would like to play for another AAA team for the 2020/2021 season, the family will need to request an Elite Waiver from GHC. The signed waiver, complete with rationale must be submitted to the Female Elite Hockey Committee prior to the start of tryouts.

Please note: It is understood by all parties that should the player be chosen as a member of another LMHA, the association will notify the AFHL and GHC. If the player does not make the LMHA, it is the player’s responsibility to notify GHC whether or not she is returning or wishing to access an additional try out.

For those within Zone 9, your Resident MHA is Hockey Calgary, not GHC or another  community association.

At the U18 age division, yes. The U18 AAA operates without boundaries or draw zones, and players outside of Zone 9 are welcome to attend Calgary Fire Spring ID and Try-Out Camps.

Girls Hockey Calgary has tentatively scheduled our critical ice times for the upcoming season, notwithstanding any changes or delays that may result from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and various provincial restrictions. At this time, the Association is unable to provide final confirmation of these dates. Our planning continues at full speed as we wait for further directives from our governing bodies. Dates will be confirmed when the Hockey Canada Board of Directors, in conjunction with public health officials, deems it safe to resume sanctioned activities.

The Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) is home to 30 teams at the U18 AAA, U18 AA, and U15 AA levels, providing a competitive platform for young aspiring female athletes to enhance their skills. A collection of 12 host associations around the province are committed to the growth and development of AAA and AA female hockey. The member associations include: Airdrie, Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Leduc, Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Okotoks, Olds, and Red Deer. Through dedicated staff and volunteers, the AFHL offers opportunities for female athletes to receive mentorship, off-ice education sessions, female specific coaching, post-secondary exposure opportunities, academic & billet programs, and a competitive skill development atmosphere.

Since its inception in the 2016-17 season, the winner of the Esso Cup (Canada’s female U18 AAA national championship) has come out of the AFHL, as the St. Albert Slash have become champions over the past three seasons consecutively.

Players who withdraw more than 7 days before the camp start date are subject to a $50 administration fee. Players who withdrawn less than 7 days before the camp start date are not eligible for a refund.

If camps are cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, registration fees will be refunded entirely.
