GHC is fortunate to have an energetic and engaged membership, whose volunteer efforts support our organization year after year. As our association grows, we continue to expand and improve our volunteer opportunities and create an environment where volunteers feel they belong.

Volunteer Policy
1. Every family is required to complete volunteer credits. There is no rollover of volunteer credits from year to year.
2. GHC families must provide a post-dated cheque for the value of their credits ($300). Cheques are payable to Girls Hockey Calgary Association and must be post-dated for December 31 of that year.
3. Cheques are collected by the Team Manager and submitted to the GHC Volunteer Coordinator no later than October 31.
4. GHC members who wish to opt-out of our volunteer program may pay the value of their credits ($300) at the time of registration. No refunds will be given for opt-out payments.
5. GHC members are responsible for tracking and reporting their fulfilled credits on our Volunteer Commitment Form. Volunteer Commitment Forms are due no later than April 30 of the given season.
6. Volunteer credit requirements will not exceed 2 credits per family. GHC families will fulfil and report the credit requirements based on their oldest registered player.
7. Families who do not complete their required volunteer commitment will have their cheques cashed no earlier than April 30 and no later than May 31.
8. Dishonoured cheques — cheques that are not accepted by the financial institutions due to Non Sufficient Funds (NSF) or stop-payments — are subject to a $35 administrative fee.
9. The administrative fee ($35) and the value of the unfulfilled credit ($300) will be added to the GHC members’ account and they will be considered “Not in good standing” until the payment is received.
10. GHC reserves the right not to release a member “Not in good standing” for future registration with GHC or any other Hockey Canada member association.
11. GHC Elite families are required to participate in an additional four volunteer positions during the annual Calgary Firestarter Tournament. Families that do not meet the required volunteer position spots will be assessed an additional $500 on their registration fees. These volunteer hours are in addition to any of the above mentioned volunteer jobs and are not eligible to fulfill the volunteer credits required.
Volunteer Requirements
Association-Level Volunteer Opportunities
There are a number of ways our members can volunteer at an association-level to support the development and delivery of GHC programs. Vacancies in the following positions will be advertised to membership as they become available
The Board of Directors governs and manages the affairs of the association. The role of the Board includes establishing the mission, goals and policies of the association; ensuring the long-term financial stability of the association; and maintaining the organizational stability and strength of the association.
The Board consists of no less than seven (7) directors and no more than fifteen (15) directors. Vacancies are announced no less than fifteen days (15) before the Annual General Meeting. Any member in good standing may stand for election.
Duties of the Officers of the Association include but are not limited to:
- The President shall be the chief executive officer and have general supervision of the business of the association.
- The Vice-President is responsible to assist the President in the development and implementation of strategic planning, and to oversee a special area of responsibility such as operations, community, elite, marketing, etc.
- The Secretary maintains records of the board and ensures effective management of the association's records.
- The Treasurer manages the finances of the association.
- The immediate Past President of the Association is an honorary member of the Board of Directors for continuity.
- Directors are responsible for the effective organization and delivery of their assigned programs.

Age Group Coordinators are the front-line contact for all teams, coaches, managers, and parents, and the liaison between the age group members and the Board.
Age Group Coordinators are appointed according to association bylaws, and/or vacancies are advertised to members when available.
Age Group Coordinators are accountable to the Director(s) of Community.
Duties during Evaluations include but are not limited to:
- Communicate evaluation process, information, groupings and placements with members.
- Attend evaluation sessions for age group.
- Ensure off-ice volunteers are in place and a volunteer record is kept.
- Assist parents with questions, issues or concerns.
- Report any issues to the Director of Community.
Duties during League Play include but are not limited to:
- Remain as front line contact for all teams, coaches, managers, and parents.
- Communicate association policies, events and/or updates to age group members.
- Communicate policies, events and/or updates from our governing bodies to age group members.
- Report any issues, concerns or suggestions to the Director of Community.
- Attend relevant meetings as related to age group.
- Work as requested on best practices as related to age group.
GHC is in need of two Volunteer Coordinator(s) to support the communication, tracking and review of our current Volunteer Policy.
Responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator will include:
- Support the Evaluations Committee in updating and promoting shifts for our community evaluations process.
- Work with GHC Office to maintain database of post-dated cheques and volunteer commitment forms.
- Identify and provide members with association-level volunteer opportunities as they become available (Special events, position vacancies, etc)
- Work with GHC Office and Team Managers to track unfulfilled credits.
- Liaise with Team Managers, Volunteer Committee and Board regarding member volunteer commitments.
The Volunteer Coordinator(s) will also work with the Board to review and improve our current volunteer policy. The goal of this review is to:
- Review and report on our current Volunteer policy.
- Identify gaps in services and resources to our members.
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our Volunteer Policy.
- Update and/or create Volunteer Role Descriptions.
· The Volunteer Coordinator is accountable to the Volunteer Committee Chair.
Evaluations are a critical process for our association. Our goal is to provide a positive, well-organized environment for our players so they may participate to the best of their abilities. The goal of evaluations is to place our players on the team that is best for their skill level and development needs. To meet this goal, we require an immense amount of member involvement. Every family in the association is encouraged to contribute during evaluations.
Five (5) evaluation volunteer hours are eligible for one (1) credit towards your Volunteer Commitment.
- GHC will use a combination of External Evaluators (third-party) and Internal Evaluators during our evaluation process.
- Internal Evaluator assignments are reserved for Coach Applicants and/or volunteers who have been approved by the Evaluation Coordinator.
- Evaluators may not evaluate the age group in which they have a daughter participating.
- Evaluators are to avoid contact with parents of participants and other evaluators as per GHC policy.
- Evaluators are accountable to the VP Operations.
Equipment Coordinator (Community)
This role is essential to ensure all equipment for the organization is managed. The majority of the time commitment for this position is at the beginning of the season and at the end of the season.
Responsibilities of the Equipment Coordinator include:
- Manage pinnies and jerseys required for evaluations and Elite/AAA tryout camps.
- Distribute jerseys, goalie equipment, first aid kits and coaching equipment to community teams at the beginning of the season.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all jerseys and equipment, including first aid kits and any unused items.
- Oversee repair and/or replacement of jerseys and equipment.
- Manage return of jerseys, goalie equipment, first aid kits and coaching equipment at the end of the season.
GHC requires one or more Team Photo Day Coordinator(s) to organize and mange our Team Photo event. This event planning role will work closely with GHC's Hockey Administration Manager and the Photographer. GHC is working with a new photo vendor for the 2019/20 season.
Responsibilities of the Team Photo Day Coordinator(s) include:
- Act as a liaison between Photographer and GHC office to schedule a date or dates for Team Photo.
- Act as a liaison between Photographer and GHC office to secure an appropriate venue for Team Photo that will suit photographer's needs.
- Assist GHC office with team scheduling for Team Photo Day.
- Assist GHC office with recruiting and scheduling of on-site volunteers for Team Photo day.
- Attend Team Photo day as on-site coordinator.
Program Coordinators work co-operatively with the Board to oversee their assigned portion of association initiatives.
Program Coordinators are appointed according to association bylaws, and/or vacancies are advertised to members when available.
Program Coordinators are accountable to the Director of their assigned portfolio. (For example, the Equipment Coordinator (Community) is accountable to the Director(s) of Community.)

To volunteer as a program coordinator for GHC, please submit an Expression of Interest Form (Coordinator).
Committees work co-operatively with the Board to organize and deliver their assigned portion of association initiatives.
Committee members are appointed in accordance with association bylaws (for example, the Executive Committee) and/or advertised to members when available.
All committees run under the direction of the Board.

GHC requires volunteers in the planning, marketing and management of several events throughout the year.
Events, shifts and role descriptions are advertised to members when available.
Examples of special events include but are not limited to:
- GHC-Hosted Tournaments (1 Credit per 5 hours)
- GHC-Hosted Provincials (1 Credit per 5 hours)
- IIHF / Hockey Canada Events (1 Credit per 5 hours)
Hockey Calgary’s League Chairperson will serve as the main contact between association coaches/managers and Hockey Calgary within an assigned age category and league. In this role the League Chairperson assists in developing and maintaining positive relations on behalf of Hockey Calgary.

Note: Other Hockey Calgary roles may come available and will be communicated accordingly. These roles may be approved for credit on a case-by-case basis.
Hockey Calgary will grant their next casino in 2020. In the past, participating families were granted EITHER $150 per shift as a credit toward registration fees, OR full credit toward your volunteer bond requirement.

Team-Level Volunteer Opportunities (Community)
A successful team experience relies on the support and engagement of parents and guardians. The following roles must be filled at the beginning of each season to assist in the operation of your team.
Each team is required to have one (1) Head Coach. This is a mandatory position.
Applications for Jr. Inferno community coaching positions are accepted throughout the registration period (June to August). All applications are verified by the Director(s) of Coaching and the Coach Selection Committee.
Head Coaches must meet the requirements of our association, as well as the requirements of our governing bodies.
Head Coach responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as the official spokesperson on behalf of the team.
- Coordinate the delegation of responsibilities to the Assistant Coaches and Team Manager.
- Plan on and off-ice activities in consultation with the Assistant Coaches.
- Facilitate parents’ meeting to inform them on the team's hockey season plan
- Assist with player evaluation process.
- Plan, implement and control pre-game preparation and communication with the team.
- Design the practice plans in consultation with the assistant coaches.
- Coach the team in all games and practices.
- Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervision of the players.
- Submit year-end report as provided by the Director(s) of Coaching.
- The Head Coach is accountable to the Director(s) of Coaching.

Each team is required to have one (1) Team Manger. This is a mandatory position.
The purpose of this role is to ensure the smooth operation of the team and allow the coaches to concentrate on the on-ice activities. The Team Manager cannot be the spouse, direct relation or person residing in same residence of the team’s Head Coach.
Team Manager responsibilities include:
- Liaise between the Head Coach and parents.
- Oversee team operations
- Allocate and track volunteer responsibilities.
- Assign and/or fulfil tasks required by the association and its governing bodies such as safety forms, financial guidelines, game sheets, etc.
- Communicate association news and policies to the team.
- Understand the Team Manager responsibilities outlined in the Team Manager Handbook.
- The team manager is accountable to the Head Coach and the Age Group Coordinator for the age division.

Each team is required to have one (1) Team Health & Safety Coordinator. This is a mandatory position.
The Team Health & Safety Coordinator is a new team-level volunteer position created by GHC to assist Coaches, Managers, parents and players during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Team Health & Safety Coordinator does not require any formal health or medical training to fill this role. This volunteer will be assisting in collecting information required by Alberta Hockey and Alberta Health (participant tracking), creating a COVID-19 safety culture within their team, disseminating information to families from the GHC Chief Safety Officer, ensuring that GHC’s expectations of its members in following all COVID-19 guidelines are being met and reporting any possible COVID-19 exposures to the required stakeholders. This volunteer will have the support of a qualified medical practitioner with whom they can contact for their age group.
- Be familiar with AHS COVID-19 guidelines and adhere to them.
- Communicate with your team on requirements specific to the return to hockey for GHC.
- Be familiar with facility guidelines and requirements specific to the prevention of COVID-19.
- Prior to starting hockey activities be aware of playing facilities guidelines with respect to:
- Physical distancing.
- Restrictions specific to the number of people allowed in public areas.
- Areas that may not be accessible in the facility - main lobby, dressing rooms, observation areas, showers, washrooms, etc.
- If dressing rooms are not available, have a common area to put on skates or remove skate guards with marked physical distanced seating.
- Cleaning processes in the facility, including how often it is disinfected.
- General facility rules specific to practicing good hygiene.
- Relay information to coaches, managers, players and parents.
- Work with the coaching staff and managers on any health-related issues with teams and be prepared to advise the safety advisor responsible for your age group.
- Ensure the health and safety of the players and help to create a safe and welcoming environment.
- Educate parents and players on the need for each player to have their own water bottle labelled with their names. Players should take their water bottles home and wash them before the next session.
- Emphasize to players the importance of washing their hands regularly with soap and water or hand sanitizer
- Emphasize to players the importance of keeping their equipment clean.
- Work with coaches to support physical distancing, hygiene and return to play after illness.
- Encourage participants to minimize their time in or around the facility. Have participants put on their shoes or skate guards so that they can leave quickly. Remind players and parents to follow physical distancing guidelines when leaving.
Each team will have a maximum of four (4) Assistant Coaches, including one (1) Goalie Coach if designated. These are mandatory positions.

Assistant Coaches must meet the requirements of our association, as well as the requirements of our governing bodies.
Assistant Coach responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with player evaluation process
- Assist with planning, organizing and conducting practices
- Assist with pre-game preparation
- Assist with the operation of the team during games
- Assist with the supervision of players off and on the ice.
- Assist with the formulation of the game plan.
- Be encouraging and positive at all practices and games.
- The Assistant Coach is accountable to the Head Coach.

Each team is required to have one (1) Team Treasurer. This is a mandatory position.
The Team Treasurer is responsible for the collection, tracking and disbursement of team funds. Ideally, the Team Treasurer has a basic understanding of accounting. The Team Treasurer cannot be the spouse, direct relation or person residing in same residence of the team’s Head Coach.
Team Treasurer responsibilities include:
- Comply with GHC Team Financial Guidelines.
- Manage team bank account provided by GHC. The Team Treasurer and Team Manager will have signing authority on the account.
- Track revenue (cash calls, fundraising, donations and sponsorship) and expenses (tournaments, development, team-building, etc) using GHC Team Budget Template.
- Provide regular financial updates including an updated Budget and Bank Statement throughout the season.
- Ensure majority consensus is used to direct any expenditure.
- Understand the responsibilities outlined in the Team Financial Guidelines.
- Team Treasurers are accountable to VP Administration / Treasurer for the association.

Novice, Atom, PeeWee, Bantam and Midget teams are required to have two (2) Jersey Managers. These are mandatory positions.
Jersey Manager (Novice to Midget) responsibilities include:
- Collect both sets (Home and Away) of jerseys and socks (if applicable) at the designated equipment pick-up time.
- Inspect condition and confirm numbers correspond for both sets (Home and Away).
- Maintain a list of jersey numbers distributed to each player.
- “Home” Jersey Manager will be responsible for the “Home” jerseys for the entire season. “Away” Jersey Manager will be responsible for the “Away” jerseys for the entire season. BOTH sets of jerseys will be brought to every game.
- Upon arrival to a game, provide the appropriate set of jerseys to the Dressing Room Supervisor to distribute to the players.
- Following a game, collect the jerseys once the coach has finished the post-game discussion.
- Wash jerseys on a consistent basis and hang to dry.
- Report any lost or damaged jerseys to both the Team Manager and the association Equipment Coordinator.
- Return jerseys at designated equipment drop-off time. Report any lost or damaged jerseys to both the Team Manager and the association Equipment Coordinator.
- Jersey Mangers are accountable to the Team Manager.

Teams are required to have one (1) Dressing Room Supervisor in attendance at all games and practices. The total number of Dressing Room Supervisors may vary by team. These are mandatory positions.
Dressing Room Supervisors must be female in accordance with our association policy. A female Assistant Coach and/or Trainer may also act as a Dressing Room Supervisor if necessary.
Dressing Room Supervisor responsibilities include:
- Remain in the dressing room at all times whenever there are players present. This includes before and after each practice and game, and during the designated coaches time. (Typically 15 minutes pregame and 15 minutes postgame.)
- Distribute the appropriate set of jerseys (provided by the Jersey Manager) to players before a game.
- Collect the jerseys once players have re-dressed following a game and return to Jersey Manager.
- Ensure players are behaving in accordance with the safety policies of our association and our governing bodies.
- Ensure adjoining bathrooms and/or showers are empty and safe for use if needed.
- For all games, ensure parents do not enter the dressing room during the designated coaches time. (Typically 15 minutes pregame and 15 minutes postgame.)
- For teams in the Atom, Bantam, PeeWee and Midget age divisions, ensure no males enter the dressing room outside of the designated coaches time. (Typically 15 minutes pregame and 15 minutes postgame.)
- Ensure no cell phones, tablets or cameras are used in the dressing room. Team Officials, parents and/or players may only use their cell phone in common areas. Absolutely no photos, video or voice recording, may be taken inside a dressing room.
- Report any infractions or issues to the Team Manager and Head Coach. The Dressing Room Parent does not have the authority to discipline or suspend players.
- Dressing Room Supervisors are accountable to the Team Manager.

The total number of Scorekeepers, Timekeepers and penalty Box Keepers may vary by team. These are mandatory positions.
For all Hockey Calgary seeding round, regular season and playoff games, the home team is to supply the timekeeper and the visiting team is to provide the scorekeeper. For exhibition games and tournaments, the home/host team often supplies both the timekeeper and scorekeeper.
In the Novice Development League, each team must supply two off-ice officials for all games.
Timekeeper responsibilities include:
- Manage the score clock for the duration of the game, including the period that the game is in, the time for each period, goals, penalties, and shots on goal.
- Start and stop the clock according to the stops and starts in play during the game.
- Display sportsmanship and respect to all participants and officials.
- Review the Hockey Calgary Off-Ice Official Manual.
- Timekeepers are accountable to the Team Manager. During games, Timekeepers are considered Off-Ice Officials and are accountable to the referee.
Scorekeepers responsibilities include:
- Manage the game sheet, which includes recording all scoring and penalty information provided to the scorekeeper by the referee.
- Display sportsmanship and respect to all participants and officials.
- Review the Hockey Calgary Off-Ice Official Manual.
- Scorekeepers are accountable to the Team Manager. During games, Scorekeepers are considered Off-Ice Officials and are accountable to the referee.
Penalty Box Keeper responsibilities include:
- Allow entry and exit of all penalized players at the time required and confirm the time when the player can be allowed to leave the Penalty Box.
- Assist the Official Scorer and Timekeeper with penalty information if required.
- Display sportsmanship and respect to all participants and officials.
The total number of On-Ice Helpers may vary by team. On-Ice Helpers must attend a minimum of 70 per cent of practices to quality for credit.
On-Ice Helper responsibilities include:
- Assist with the implementation of practice plans.
- Assist with the supervision of players off and on the ice.
- Be encouraging and positive at all practices and games.
- On-Ice Helpers are accountable to the Head Coach.
Teams are required to have one (1) Team Volunteer coordinator.
GHC provides access to Volunteer Local software for each team to use to track team level volunteer opportunities and volunteer hours. Team Volunteer Coordinators are assigned administrator access to the Volunteer Local event website for your Team.
Team Volunteer Coordinator responsibilities include:
- Input all team level volunteer jobs and shifts into the team event
- Ensure families sign up online for all volunteer shifts they will be completing
- Ensure that all families on your team have met their volunteer requirement for the season
- Advise families of upcoming volunteer opportunities from the league if necessary
The Team Volunteer Coordinator is accountable to the Team Manager and association Volunteer coordinators.
The following roles are not for credit, but can greatly assist in the operation of a team. All required team roles must be filled before assigning non-credited roles.
- Identify tournament opportunities at the beginning of the season that are an appropriate competition level for the team and that meet minor hockey governing bylaws.
- Ensure team has been informed of and has agreed upon tournament expectations, including costs, locations and frequency.
- Register with tournament host and work with Team Manager and Team Treasurer to fulfill registration requirements, including fees, rosters, tournament package pick-up, etc.
- Work with Team Manager to fulfill Hockey Calgary tournament requirements — including Schedule Windows and Travel Permit requests — by the appropriate deadline.
- Reserve appropriate group accommodations for team, with consideration of price, proximity to the arena and amenities, and reputation.
- Note: It is highly recommended that teams apply for tournaments as soon as possible. Both local and out-of-town tournaments fill quickly.
- The Tournament Coordinator is accountable to the Team Manager.
- Work in conjunction with the team manager and treasurer to identify fundraising needs, timelines and possible expenses.
- Research and propose fundraising ideas to the team.
- Ensure team has been informed of and has agreed upon fundraising expectations and events.
- Take the lead role on administering and running the team’s fundraising events.
- Manage all fundraising material (tickets, items for auction or raffles, etc).
- Track and provide treasurer with all monies collected on behalf of the team, and any expenses / receipts associated with the fundraiser.
- Communicate fundraising deadlines, updates and results with team.
- Ensure raffles meet Alberta Gaming legislation.
- Ensure sponsorships and donations are in accordance with GHC policy. (All sponsors must be reported to GHC Board. The GHC Logos are not permitted to appear on apparel or promotional material alongside a sponsor that has not been approved by the GHC Board.)
- The Fundraising Coordinator is accountable to the Team Manager.
- Identify team-building expectations and opportunities at the beginning of the season.
- Ensure team has been informed of and has agreed upon team-building costs, events and frequency.
- Work with Head Coach, Team Manager and Team Treasurer to manage budget and schedule.
- Ensure all activities are in accordance with association policies and guidelines, including the GHC Code of Conduct.
- Team-building events include but are not limited to: off-ice development (dry-land training, yoga, mentorship opportunities); volunteering and community service; team celebrations (season kick-off, holiday parties, family skates, group activities); parent social night(s); year-end party and gifts.
- The Team-Building Coordinator is accountable to the Team Manager.
Team-Level Volunteer Opportunities (AAA/AA)
A successful team experience relies on the support and engagement of parents and guardians. The following roles must be filled at the beginning of each season to assist in the operation of your team.
Responsible for: Getting the score sheets prepared for home games, labeling the score sheets with the roster for all games, reporting games results, maintaining a copy of all game sheets, recording of major penalties and affiliate call-ups, distributing roster and contact lists as necessary (including to scouts on request), information or update newsletters to parents liaison between parents and coaches. Incident or injury reports, as necessary, and managing out-of-town travel. The coach typically selects the Manager; and seeks endorsement of the selection from the GHC Elite Division Coordinator. Selection is usually prior to the first team meeting. Required position.
The Team Health & Safety Coordinator is a new team-level volunteer position created by GHC to assist Coaches, Managers, parents and players during the COVID-19 pandemic. - Prior to starting hockey activities be aware of playing facilities guidelines with respect to:
- Physical distancing.
- Restrictions specific to the number of people allowed in public areas.
- Areas that may not be accessible in the facility - main lobby, dressing rooms, observation areas, showers, washrooms, etc.
- If dressing rooms are not available, have a common area to put on skates or remove skate guards with marked physical distanced seating.
- Cleaning processes in the facility, including how often it is disinfected.
- General facility rules specific to practicing good hygiene.
- Relay information to coaches, managers, players and parents.
- Work with the coaching staff and managers on any health-related issues with teams and be prepared to advise the safety advisor responsible for your age group.
- Ensure the health and safety of the players and help to create a safe and welcoming environment.
- Educate parents and players on the need for each player to have their own water bottle labelled with their names. Players should take their water bottles home and wash them before the next session.
- Emphasize to players the importance of washing their hands regularly with soap and water or hand sanitizer
- Emphasize to players the importance of keeping their equipment clean.
- Work with coaches to support physical distancing, hygiene and return to play after illness.
- Encourage participants to minimize their time in or around the facility. Have participants put on their shoes or skate guards so that they can leave quickly. Remind players and parents to follow physical distancing guidelines when leaving.
The team treasurer is responsible for the following: collection of player "cash call" fees, parent contributions and all fundraising revenues; payment of team expenditures; preparation of team budget (in conjunction with team manager) for parents’ approval and submission to the Elite Division Coordinator by October 15 (final approved budget submission to GHC Treasurer required by November 15th); banking transactions; maintaining complete accounting and player account records; monthly team financial statements (distributed to parents and copied to GHC Elite Division Coordinator by the 15th of the following month). A final budget to actual financial report is required by GHC policy to be distributed to parents and submitted to the GHC Treasurer within 45 days of the end of the team’s hockey season. Anyone interested in this position should have strong accounting and financial skills. Required position.
Two families are needed to take care of and bring the jerseys (home and away) to games. The jerseys are hung up in the dressing rooms on delivery. The girls will hang them up for collection. Doing that in the dressing room should be taken care of by the female half of the parent team. This position is not responsible for good dressing room conditions (the players are). Required position.
Send around a sign-up sheet so each game has the necessary people available for the time/score/penalty box area. See that they are good to go for game times. Orient new volunteers to the duties; score sheet, time clock functions as necessary. Required position.
Timekeeper responsibilities include:
- Manage the score clock for the duration of the game, including the period that the game is in, the time for each period, goals, penalties, and shots on goal.
- Start and stop the clock according to the stops and starts in play during the game.
- Display sportsmanship and respect to all participants and officials.
- Review the Hockey Calgary Off-Ice Official Manual.
- Timekeepers are accountable to the Team Manager. During games, Timekeepers are considered Off-Ice Officials and are accountable to the referee.
Scorekeepers responsibilities include:
- Manage the game sheet, which includes recording all scoring and penalty information provided to the scorekeeper by the referee.
- Display sportsmanship and respect to all participants and officials.
- Review the Hockey Calgary Off-Ice Official Manual.
- Scorekeepers are accountable to the Team Manager. During games, Scorekeepers are considered Off-Ice Officials and are accountable to the referee.
Penalty Box Keeper responsibilities include:
- Allow entry and exit of all penalized players at the time required and confirm the time when the player can be allowed to leave the Penalty Box.
- Assist the Official Scorer and Timekeeper with penalty information if required.
- Display sportsmanship and respect to all participants and officials.
Most team’s parents typically contribute a cash infusion at the beginning of the season, and some teams sell raffle tickets or similar to fund team expenses. Team fundraising activities need to be identified and persons appointed to organize the same. Approval for and assistance with staging fundraising endeavours must be obtained from the team parents (and the Board if necessary). Again, if needed, will be required to follow all practices as laid out by Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC). Required position.
Upon direction of the head coach, typically could use a few people during the games to track +/-, shot locations, etc., or other stats of interest to the coaching staff. Optional position is dependent upon the coach’s requirements.
Our Midget AAA, Bantam and Midget Elite teams jointly host a “Fire Starter” Tournament early in the season. There are volunteers required to coordinate fund raising, game duties (scorekeepers, etc.), game results, snacks etc. A tournament coordinator “team” is imperative to the success of the tournament. Any team not providing the adequate volunteers may forfeit their ability to host a division.
The following roles are not for credit, but can greatly assist in the operation of a team. All required team roles must be filled before assigning non-credited roles.
Each team should appoint a volunteer to do some video as necessary for the team as a strategic tool, but also to take some digital photography.
This person might help research tournaments for the team to consider, present the options, pros/cons, and rough cost estimates. After tourney selection, this individual may also assist with the necessary arrangements both in advance and on the ground at the tournament. Please note that our leagues do not allow for tournament windows so tournaments must be prior to or after the season ends. Tournaments (especially out of town) are very costly and teams must have a 75% acceptance for these expenditures. Voting will be by secret ballad if required.
GHC provides access to a TeamSnap account for each team to use as their main scheduling and communication tool. Teams should budget for the account at the cost of approximately $10 per team (billed mid-season). TeamSnap Coordinators are assigned manager access to the team account
TeamSnap Coordinator responsibilities include:
- Read the TeamSnap Coordinator Letter.
- Confirm player roster and team official information (Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager) and assign access as needed.
- Enter game schedules and practice schedules as provided by the association.
- Ensure TeamSnap schedule is current and accurate.
- Advise teams of upcoming events from the league if necessary.
- TeamSnap Coordinator is accountable to the Team Manager.
